Product Description
To achieve the traditional look of an aged oil modified polyurethane finish with waterborne coatings on your hardwood floor, try Loba's Amberizer additive! It's a great option to intensify the color of wood surfaces at the same time you're putting on a sealer or finish.
Loba Amberizer can be mixed with with all water-based primers and finishes from Loba, and it makes it so these primers and finishes will imitate the appearance of an aged surface treated with oil modified polyurethane finish or solvent-based PU finish. Through the variable use in one or more layers, the color intensity can be individually controlled.
Amberizer is suitable for all dark wood species as well as dark-colored wood surfaces. For light wood species, we recommend consultation with Loba.
- May be combined with all water-based primers and finishes from Loba
- Water-based technology, solvent-free
- Simple and safe application
- Adds the look of oil based finish
- Great to touch up and repair of old floors
- Convenient package and great color consistency
Drying Time: Amberizer does not alter the dry time of the desired Loba finish.
Storage and Transportation: The shelf life is 36 months in unopened containers. Store and transport between 40°F and 75°F (5°C to 25°C). DO NOT LET THIS FREEZE.
Application
AVOIDING LAPMARKS:
- Material must not be poured on the floor. Use LOBA finish bucket and apply directly with a recommended applicator.
- Preferably use in at least two layers.
- Apply LOBA finishes with Amberizer as evenly as possible, avoiding puddles and overlaps. Ensure an even application quantity. Apply edge areas with the LOBA edge roller. This is especially important when working on raw wood.
- The color effect depends on the type of wood. In order to assess the achievable color shade and the overall optical effect, we recommend to prepare a color sample on the original wood for your own examination and, if necessary, for approval by the building owner.
- Wood species with water-soluble wood components (e.g. tannic acid) whose intensity can vary within a surface can influence the effect of the additiv.
- Shake the contents well.
- Observe general and, if necessary, product-specific occupational health and safety regulations.
MIXING:
- Add just before application.
- Add a maximum of one container of 1x100ml to 5L/kg of finish.
- Shake or stir in thoroughly (also possible mechanically with a LOBA paint mixer).
- In the case of two-component systems, LOBA Amberizer is added after the hardener is worked into the mass!
- 1K finish mixed with LOBA Amberizer must be applied within 24 hours, 2K finishes within the indicated application time. Longer stability is not guaranteed.
SUITABILITY:
- Can be combined with all LOBA finishes and primers. The processing properties of the finish, its product combinability and the drying time remain unchanged. Please note the TI of the corresponding finish.
General Guidelines
- Cleaning Tools: Clean tools and equipment immediately with water.
- Drying time: The indicated drying times are valid for +20°C and 50% relative humidity, and assume careful, draught-free ventilation of the working area. Lower temperatures, higher relative humidity or poorer ventilation lead to longer drying times. Do not apply any protective coverings, wet clean the surface or lay carpet until the coating has achieved its final hardening. Product-specific data can be found in the relevant technical information.
- Intermediate sanding: Where several layers of coatings are applied, if any layer is not overcoated within 24 hours, then the only way to ensure adequate bond between the layers is by intermediate sanding. An intermediate sanding before the final application will achieve an even surface. Carefully clean off the dust after intermediate sanding.
- Use with or without a primer: Generally all finishes can be used without a primer. The use of a primer increases application reliability and ensures a finish free of lap marks and stripes, almost irrespective of the wood type. Further details can be found in the LOBA wood type list in the current product catalogue.
- Edge bonding: Water-based coating systems usually show a tendency for edge bonding. Several measures can be taken to minimise the formation of irregular joints and the associated locking effect. The use of shear-resistant or firm elastic adhesive to glue the parquet, careful filling of the joints with wood putty, use of suitable primers, such as LOBA EasyPrime, pretreatment of the groove sides on solid wood boards with wax compatible with the coating before laying. Taking steps to ensure that the room climate, in particular the relative humidity, remains constant. (Careful advising of the customer is recommended). Old floors with damaged, weak adhesives, and flexibly glued or nailed parquet, plank flooring, wood block flooring, industrial parquet, as well as parallel parquet, parquet on underfloor heating, and woods which change their moisture content quickly, such as beech and maple.
- Interactions: Materials such as carpet underlays, furniture legs, castors, flexible adhesives used for parquet or for fixing can lead to softening and discoloration. Material building up in the joints can adversely affect touch and appearance. Exposure to hair dyes or rubber tyres on cars, motorcycles and cycles can lead to permanent, irreversible discoloration of the surface.
Please note: Because of the wide range of possible uses and conditions of application, you will still need to do your own testing. Floor Mechanics and Loba reps are available to advise, but you must observe the floor covering manufacturer's recommendations and the provisions of the current standards.
First Aid: If swallowed, give two glasses of water. Do not induce vomiting. Call for medical help immediately. In case of contact, immediately flush eyes or skin with plenty of water. Do not use solvents or thinners.
