DuraSeal Waterbased Polyurethane

Matte- 1 Gallon

DuraSeal Waterbased Polyurethane is a single component urethane resine that provides the look and durability of a traditional oil-based polyurethane. This innovative product applies just as easy as DuraSeal Polyurethane. DuraSeal Waterbased Polyurethane is easily cleaned up with warm water, instead of mineral spirits associated with oil-based polyurethanes.

DuraSeal Waterbased Polyurethane is Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certified.

Materials Check-list:
  • To get the best results it always pays to have the right tools. It is our experience that the "big box" stores do not offer the tools needed to do this job correctly. Please click the "Materials" tab  to locate the materials check-list for a list of the recommended  tools.
Color:
  • DuraSeal Waterbased Polyurethane adds an attractive "honey tone" or amber tone to the wood just like traditional oil based finishes.  The wood looks warmer and the grain is enhanced.  On light woods like maple if you want the wood to remain completely clear then you may want to consider the DuraClear products listed on our website under the DuraSeal category.

Sealer:

  • When DuraSeal Waterbased Polyurethane is being applied to a newly sanded, bare wood floor, a sealer should be applied before using the DuraSeal Waterbased Polyurethane.  See  the "HOW TO" tab of this listing for more information.

Coverage:

  • Apply DuraSeal Waterbased Polyurethane at 500 sq. ft. per gallon.

Dry Time and Cure:

  • Recoat time: 2-3 hours between coats.
  • Light foot traffic is acceptable after 24 hours.
  • Allow one week before exposing to rugs, cleaners, spills or heavy traffic.

Between Coat Abrasion:

  • Abrading for additional coats is not required if the finish is applied within 24 hours of the previous coat. However, abrading the floor usually produces a smoother finished result. Abrade the floor lightly with a DuraSeal Pre-Treat pad. Vacuum thoroughly and tack floor with a slightly water-dampened cloth to remove all dust.

Clean-up:

  • Cleans easily with warm water without the use of mineral spirits
  • Application tools should be cleaned with warm water immediately after use.

Storage:

  • Always store at room temperature. If accidentally stored at a high temperature, cool to room temperature before use. Keep from freezing. If frozen, slowly warm to room temperature and mix thoroughly before using.

Shelf Life:

  • DuraSeal Waterbased Polyurethane has a shelf life of 1 year from the manufacture date.

Greenguard Certified:

  • DuraSeal Waterbased polyurethane is designed to be used indoors.

Application Hints:

  • Read the "HOW TO" tab of this listing for application hints.

Surface Preparation:

New Natural Floors

Sand and prepare flooring according to NWFA recommended methods. Finish sanding with a 120 or 150 grit screen. Do no use steel wool. Vacuum thoroughly and tack floor with a slightly water-dampened cloth to remove all dust.  Apply two coats of DuraSeal Super Base Sealer or DuraSeal Quick Dry Sealer. Apply 1-2 coats of DuraSeal Waterbased Polyurethane Floor Finish.

New Stained Floors

Sand and prepare flooring according to NWFA recommended methods. Finish sanding with a 100 grit screen. Do not use steel wool. Apply DuraSeal Penetrating Stain or DuraSeal Quick Coat according to label directions. Apply two coats of DuraSeal  Super Base Sealer or DuraSeal Quick Dry Sealer. Apply 1-2 coats of DuraSeal Waterbased Polyurethane Floor Finish.

Previously Finished Floors

Note: Do not apply over wax, lacquer, stains or shellac containing wax or stearates. Be certain floor is free from all wax or oily residue. Clean and abrade flooring using DuraSeal Pre-Treat System. Do not use Steel Wool. Vacuum thoroughly and tack floor with a slightly water-dampened cloth to remove all dust. Apply two coats of DuraSeal Waterbased Polyurethane. DuraSeal Waterbased Polyurethane will adhere to most stains and finishes after proper preparation.  Note: Always prepare a sample or test area to determine compatibility.

Application:

Be certain all materials are at room temperature. Shake container vigorously for 10 seconds or rock the container at least 10-12 times to properly mix the contents. Use a synthetic bar applicator to provide the smoothest finish. Best results are achieved when ambient temperatures are between 50 and 90 F, and humidity is below 80%. This product will amber upon application; avoid use over white stain. If applying to white oak  use DuraSeal Super Base Sealer.

  1.  Pour a 5-6" wide line of finish along the starting wall, going with the grain of the wood.
  2. Using a clean dampened applicator, draw the finish towards the opposite wall going with the grain of the wood. Holding the applicator at a "snowplow" angle will maintain a wet edge at all times.
  3. As you approach the edge of the run, turn the applicator toward you and pad out excess material parallel to the wet edge.
  4. Feather out all turns.
  5. Apply DuraSeal Waterbased Polyurethane at 500 Sq. ft. per gallon to achieve proper film build and to prevent lapping and applicator marks.
  6. Allow first coat to dry 2-3 hours. Note: Extended dry time is required with high humidity and low temperature conditions.
  7. Abrade floor lightly with a DuraSeal Pre-Treat pad. Vacuum thoroughly and tack floor with a slightly water dampened cloth to remove all dust. Abrading for additional coats is not required  if the finish is applied within 24 hours of the previous coat.

Dry Time and Cure:

  • Recoat time: 2-3 hours between coats.
  • Light foot traffic is acceptable after 24 hours.
  • Allow one week before exposing to rugs, cleaners, spills or heavy traffic.

Maintenance:

Use walk-off mats at all entrance doorways to keep dirt and grit to a minimum. Sweep or vacuum daily and damp wipe as needed with DuraSeal Hardwood Floor Cleaner. Do not use all-purpose cleaner/degreaser products.
