DuraSeal Polyurethane is a clear oil-based, durable protective finish. This product is specifically designed for hardwood floors. DuraSeal Polyurethane will have an ambering affect when applied over light colored surfaces.  DuraSeal Polyurethane gives wood floors depth and richness while protecting them from dirt and spills.

Materials Check-list:
  • To get the best results it always pays to have the right tools. It is our experience that the "big box" stores do not offer the tools needed to do this job correctly. Please click the "Materials" tab  to locate the materials check-list for a list of the recommended  tools.

Color:

  • DuraSeal Polyurethane is clear in color and will have an ambering effect when applied over light colored surfaces. 

Coverage:

  • Apply DuraSeal Polyurethane at 500 sq. ft. per gallon. 

Clean-up:

  • For easy clean-up use mineral spirits or paint thinner.

Dry Time and Cure:

  • Allow to dry for approximately 8 hours. 
  • DuraSeal Polyurethane should dry overnight before exposing to foot traffic.
  • Allow 48 hours before replacing furniture and rugs. 

Between Coat Abrasion:

  • Allow the first coat of DuraSeal Polyurethane to dry for at least 8 hours. Abrade thoroughly using DuraSeal Pre-Treat Pad. Vacuum thoroughly and tack  floor with a cloth moistened with mineral spirits to remove dust. Apply DuraSeal Polyurethane as before. Additional coats of DuraSeal Polyurethane can be applied. Allow each coat to dry for at least 8 hours. Abrade thoroughly between each coat using a DuraSeal Pre-Treat Pad. 

Storage:

  • Always store at room temperature. If accidentally stored at a high temperature, cool to room temperature before use. Keep from freezing. If frozen, slowly warm to room temperature and mix thoroughly before using.

  • Place door mats at all exterior doors. Apply plastic or felt tips to all furniture. Wipe up spills as soon as possible. Vacuum or dust mop periodically to remove dust and grit. DURA SEAL™ Hardwood Floor Cleaner can be used to remove stubborn stains and dirt.

  2. Proceed from step 3 under New Wood Floors.

Old Wood Floors:

  1. Sand the floor to bare wood according to NWFA approved methods. Make sure to remove all existing stain and finish. 
  2. Remove all dust with a broom and/or vacuum and tack floor with a cloth moistened with mineral spirits.
  3. Proceed from step 2 under New Wood Floors.

  • Always store at room temperature. If accidentally stored at a high temperature, cool to room temperature before use. Keep from freezing. If frozen, slowly warm to room temperature and mix thoroughly before using. 

Maintenance:

  • Place door mats at all exterior doors. Apply plastic or felt tips to all furniture. Wipe up spills as soon as possible. Vacuum or dust mop periodically to remove dust and grit. DURA SEAL™ Hardwood Floor Cleaner can be used to remove stubborn stains and dirt.

Solvent: 

  • Non-photo chemically reactive.

Precautions:

  • Polyurethane will have an ambering effect when applied over light colored surfaces. Do not apply polyurethane over floors previously finished with wax, shellac containing wax,  lacquer, or stains containing wax or stearates. Stir well before and occasionally during use.

Application:

New Wood Floors

  1. Properly prepare surface according to NWFA specifications.
  2. If desired, apply DuraSeal Quick Coat or DuraSeal Penetrating Finish according to label directions. Allow to dry thoroughly.
  3. Apply Polyurethane with a brush or a lambswool applicator in thin coats at an average coverage rate of 500 square feet per gallon. Note: Application of thicker coats will result in extended dry time.
  4. Allow to dry at least 8 hours. Abrade thoroughly using DuraSeal Pre-Treat Pad. Vacuum thoroughly and tack floor lightly with a cloth moistened with mineral spirits to remove dust. Apply a second coat of Polyurethane in the same manner as the first [step 3 above].
  5. If desired, additional coats of Polyurethane may be applied. Allow each coat to dry at least 8 hours. Abrade thoroughly between each coat using a DuraSeal Pre-Treat Pad. 

Screen and Recoat:

  1. Clean floors with an abrasive pad moistened with mineral spirits to remove all grease, oil, dirt and soap residue.  Screen using No. 100 grit screen. Note: Do not apply DuraSeal Polyurethane over floors previously finished with shellac, lacquer, wax or stains containing stearates or wax.
  2. Proceed from step 3 under New Wood Floors.

Old Wood Floors:

  1. Sand the floor to bare wood according to NWFA approved methods. Make sure to remove all existing stain and finish. 
  2. Remove all dust with a broom and/or vacuum and tack floor with a cloth moistened with mineral spirits.
  3. Proceed from step 2 under New Wood Floors.

Dry Time and Cure:

  • Allow to dry for approximately 8 hours. 
  • DuraSeal Polyurethane should dry overnight before exposing to foot traffic.
  • Allow 48 hours before replacing furniture and rugs.

DuraSeal Polyurethane is a clear oil-based, durable protective finish. This product is specifically designed for hardwood floors. DuraSeal Polyurethane will have an ambering affect when applied over light colored surfaces.  DuraSeal Polyurethane gives wood floors depth and richness while protecting them from dirt and spills.

Color:

  • DuraSeal Polyurethane is clear in color and will have an ambering effect when applied over light colored surfaces.
