Surface Preparation:

New Natural Floors

Sand and prepare flooring according to NWFA recommended methods. Finish sanding with a 120 or 150 grit screen. Do no use steel wool. Vacuum thoroughly and tack floor with a slightly water-dampened cloth to remove all dust.  Apply DuraSeal DuraClear Sealer as described below and allow 1-2 hours to dry; then apply DuraSeal waterborne finish per label directions. Do not screen or abrade sealer prior to applying finish.

Stained Floors

Sand and prepare flooring according to NWFA recommended methods. Finish abrading with a 100 grit pad or equivalent. Do not use steel wool. Apply DuraSeal Penetrating Stain or DuraSeal Quick Coat according to label directions. Make sure stain is thoroughly cured before topcoating.  Note: If DuraSeal Pentrating Finish or DuraSeal Quick Coat is used, buff cured stain with a green pad.  Tack  floor with water-dampened cloth for leveling and adhesion. Apply DuraSeal DuraClear Sealer as described below and allow to dry for 1-2 hours; then apply your selected DuraSeal waterborne finish per label directions. Do not screen or abrade sealer prior to applying finish.

Application:

  1.  Pour a 4-6" wide line of DuraSeal DuraClear Sealer directly from the container along the starting wall, going with the direction of the floor or grain.
  2. Pull the sealer with a clean, moistened applicator toward the other wall with an angled, squeegee motion.
  3. As you approach the edge of the run, turn the applicator toward you and pad out excess material parallel to the wet edge.
  4. Feather out all turns, stopping and starting points.
  5. Allow sealer to dry 1-2 hours; then apply finish within 24 hours. Dry time is based on conditions of 77 F and 50% relative humidity at the recommended application rate.

Note: Use two coats of DuraSeal DuraClear Sealer on natural white oak floors.
